Iván del Prado

Artistic and Musical Director

Recognized as one of the most gifted Cuban-American conductors, del Prado is currently the Musical and Artistic Director of the Chihuahua State Philharmonic and Artistic Director of the Mobile Youth Symphony Orchestra.

His repertoire is extensive and his versatility has been proven in symphonic music, opera and ballet. Described by critics as an energetic and passionate conductor, Dr. del Prado is currently musical and artistic director of the Chihuahua State Philharmonic Orchestra and Artistic and Musical Director of the Youth Orchestra of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra in Alabama, United States of America. America.

Maestro del Prado has been principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, the Orchestra of the Gran Teatro de La Habana and the Baja California Orchestra. In 2005 he refounded the Havana Chamber Orchestra. He has directed the most important symphonic formations in Europe, Asia, the United States and Latin America.

His versatility spans the genres of symphony, opera and ballet. Opera has given del Prado the opportunity to collaborate with outstanding artists with prestigious houses such the Deutsch Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Teatro de la Zarzuela and Bellas Artes. Ballet has taken him to conduct the Deutsch Staatsoper Unter den LindenBallet and the Cuban National Ballet. Deutsch Staatsoper Unter den Linden,  El Teatro de la Zarzuela y Bellas Artes.

Education has been a central focus in Iván del Prado’s career, and he was founder of the Cuba National Youth Orchestras. Most recently he was an adjunct professor at the University of Southern Mississippi and artistic director of the Premier Orchestral Institute.

Del Prado holds the Doctorate in Musical Arts (DMA) as well as the Distinction for National Culture, one of the highest honors conferred on relevant personalities of the cultural world in Cuba.
