Continuing in the same “Key” of my previous entry, today, I will tell you about my current work as Music Director of the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra. Since I came to the United States of America, my work has expanded to the education field. I had to dust off the skills I practiced as the Havana Children’s and Youth Orchestra Music Director. Today, in addition to the work I do with professional orchestras, I also conduct, with great dedication, the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO).

The MSYO is more than an orchestra, it is an educational, community and regional project based in Mobile, a city of French origins located in the South of the United States. The MSYO is the best youth orchestra of its kind in the central Gulf Coast region. The interaction with these young people makes me appreciate how important it is to work with and for them although they may or may not be professional musicians in the future. Music is not a privilege, but a right.

The MSYO rehearses every Sunday at the Larkins Center (Mobile, AL) ). It is a hard job, but beautiful. We perform four concerts: two Concert Series at the Saenger Theatre in Mobile, AL, one Holliday Concert in Foley, AL and the traditional Mother’s Day Concert. I want to emphasize that all this would be impossible without the excellent job the Mobile Symphony Orchestra staff does and, above all, the parents of the young musicians.
